Now it is time to add a RocketTheme template to your website. Follow the instructions below to accomplish this task.

Upload Your RocketTheme Template

  1. Login to your Joomla website by following the instructions in Part 8.
  2. In the main control panel, click on the "Extensions" tab.
  3. Click "Install/Uninstall".
  4. In the section called "Upload Package File", click the "Browse" button.
  5. This pulls up your directories and files on your computer hard drive. Find the downloaded RocketTheme template (from Part 11) file and select it. Note: it should be a file with a .tgz extension. For example, the file name for my website template is rt_terrantribune_j15.tgz.
  6. Click "Open".
  7. Now click the "Upload File & Install" button.
  8. When the template has finished installing, you should see the confirmation: "Install Template Success".
Now the RocketTheme template has been uploaded to your Joomla site! Next, you need to make it your default template.

Step 2: Make it Your Default Template

  1. In the main control panel, click on the "Extensions" tab.
  2. Click "Template Manager".
  3. You should see a list of templates available to use on your site. Click on the circle to the left of the template that you just uploaded then click the "Default" button on the top right of the page.
  4. Your template should be set! Now just click the "Preview" link at the top right of your page or just go to your website to see your new template.
Congratulations, you have installed your new RocketTheme template! At this point, you probably have sample data on your site (if you chose this option when incorporating Joomla on your domain) or just a bare site. Don't worry, we will start adding the real content and work on the overall appearance in subsequent steps.
