Part 4: Registering Your Domain Name

ssuming that you have found a domain name that is available, you can now start the registration process. This is a simple and straightforward process. Just fill out the form with the information that is requested. Note: you will be asked if you want to add Bluehost domain privacy (for free). I normally opt in for this to avoid unsolicited contact by people who are trying to market something to me. If you do not select this option, your information will be available on the web site whois.com.  

Domain Privacy Option

Marketers (including the shady ones) will obtain your information from whois.com and contact you. Thus, I always recommend a domain privacy option. This way the only information people can see on whois.com is Bluehosts. See screenshot below. For more information, click on the "Add BlueHost Domain Privacy FREE" link on BlueHost's site while registering.

A note about the account plans: the longer you sign up for, the better the discount you can receive. In fact, the 12 and 24 month plans includes free registration of your domain name. The account plans available are VERY reasonable for what you get.

Once you have completed the registration, you will have an account with Bluehost that includes your domain name. There are no other costs involved with registering your domain name. Bluehost maintains your registration as a part of your account with them.

Congratulations, you now have your very own domain for your organization and you are ready to start developing your website!
